Tagua is a palm seed from the Colombian rain forest. It grows wildly in the Andes near the Pacific Ocean coastline
at an altitude of 1800 m above sea level. It is also known as the Vegetable Ivory, because its cream colour, density, and hardness are very similar to actual ivory. This makes it an animal- and environment- friendly substitute for actual ivory, avoiding the sacrifice of endangered elephants.
