The Benefits of Composting at Home via @SCJGreenChoices
Composting is the process of taking all the organic and biodegradable waste that you would otherwise throw away and place into a receptacle bin in your back yard, or take it to a commercial composting facility in your area. Through a natural process, the food scraps or yard trimmings break down the organic matter producing a nutrient-rich soil, commonly known as “black gold,” which can be used as a fertilizer to enrich indoor and outdoor plants. When our composter bin was first installed, I imagined myself taking scoops of “black gold” from the bin to our garden of tomato plants. In addition to using the composting as fertilizer, I have discovered a number of benefits from composting throughout the past year.
