Opening of ThinkEatSave exhibition by UN Information Service, Vienna
Date / Time: Wednesday 5 June 2013, 12:00 hrs
Location: Rotunda, Vienna International Centre (VIC), Wagramerstraße 5, 1220 Vienna
The down side: food waste is a massive global problem that has negative humanitarian, environmental and financial implications. The up side: with relative ease and a few simple changes to our habits, we can significantly shift this paradigm.
Perhaps surprisingly, one-third of all unused food in developed countries is wasted by households. The ThinkEatSave campaign of the Save Food Initiative, is a partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Messe Düsseldorf and in support of the UN Secretary-General’s Zero Hunger Challenge. The campaign seeks to galvanize widespread global, regional and national actions, and encourage more sectors of society to be aware of food waste and to act.
Opening Remarks by
Janos Tisovszky, Director United Nations Information Service (UNIS) Vienna
Harald Egerer, Head United Nations Environment Programme, Vienna/ Interim Secretariat of the Carpathian Convention (UNEP Vienna-ISCC)
Katharina Gamharter, Board Member Wiener Tafel
Followed by the screening of the film
